Have you ever heard yourself say “I’m so glad that I’ve never had to go to a chiropractor. I’ve never been in that terrible car accident or been debilitated by back pain… I guess I’m just lucky so far” BUT what if I told you that although chiropractors can absolutely help with pain, they are also a huge player in preventative care! What if I told you we could ALL benefit from being assessed by a chiropractor! You could view chiropractor appointments as an opportunity for tune ups that will keep our bodies functioning at maximum capacity as we age and want to continue to enjoy our bodies & be our best selves! Today I interview a chiropractor and we discuss topics such as:

- Do you run towards health or run away from pain?

- Ever heard of texting neck… the harmful outcomes that can come from bent over daily habits

- The feeling of Hope… the relief from hearing that years of bad habits can be undone and righted with the right action plan

I am so excited to introduce you to Dr. Dennis Warren. He and his wife’s practice, Generations of Health and Wellness Center, was founded in January of 2006 and serving all of Northwest Arkansas… (a secret little gem, I currently call home). This husband/wife team, Drs. Dennis and Amanda Warren, both are beneficiaries of life-changing chiropractic care; they are graduates of Parker college of Chiropractic in Dallas, texas with certifications in various chiropractic techniques including the Webster Technique which is pregnancy specific, functional medicine and wellness practices. Generations of Health and wellness offer family wellness workshops. The awesome news is that you do not need to live in Arkansas to benefit from these workshops, because due to Covid and a crazy 2020, these workshops will become virtually offered. Dr. Dennis and Amanda believe strongly in empowering the patient with the knowledge, steps and encouragement to actively realize a three-part vision of wellness: Stay active. Eat healthy. Be happy.

Research says sitting with poor posture is the new smoking. People don’t have pain or symptoms, so they don’t think they need a chiropractor. Stress, Bad posture or sports trauma lock up joints and provide improper alignment. If you don’t reverse the damage and get re-aligned, over time, call it 10-20 years… those joints degenerate and cause pain bone spurs, arthritis.

Chiropractic is working to restore posture and correct misalignment for patient needs. It’s important for the patient to be more aware of body ergonomics, work space habits and every day movement. We have to correct bad habits that could have created problem, so that we can fully heal and advance into maintenance mode.

There are issues, such as, text neck that can stem from looking down over your phone (this can happen over our computer or even looking down to read. We need to exercise to stretch muscles, retrain ligaments and not be not one sided in our movements. Misalignment is definitely teamwork to get back on track.

- Ergonomics - get a better desk, maybe a new chair

- Technology – avoiding looking down while we text or work on the computer or even read a book

**Running towards health or running away from pain**

People are 2.3x more likely to make a positive decision to get care or utilize exercise for health if they are running away from something. If I tell you, your joints will degenerate worse in five years…. if you keep eating this way you will get diabetes like your parent… it becomes more motivating to make healthier choices. We make choices to run away from pain or discomfort, instead of running towards health or pleasure.

If you feel like this podcast did not answer your questions or you wanted to learn so much more… we plan to bring Dr. Warren back onto Direction Not Perfection for a Part 2!
