We enter a new school year, and I am going to do a monthly series with friends entitled "Becoming More Human."

This series was inspired by my first guest, Dennis Eastman, when we were having a conversation about how interactions with certain students made a difference in our life making us better professionals, but more importantly more fully human.

We do our work as educators to make a difference in the lives of students, but this flip in conversation drives us back to those times when we were changed because of the intertwined nature of our work and relationships. We hope your spirits will be renewed in this work as you think of the interactions that impacted you as we start a new school year.

Dennis Eastman is a professor of Education at Biola University and former charter school leader.
