EVER HEARD Bob Marley's "Rebel Music" ?  Then you'll 'rate' (revere) this 'Trinibago' Republic Day episode featuring, Deconstructed Caribbean honourary guest, Corey Gilkes, who gave us nuggets of information in our first episode, "Marcus Meets 2021". Currently, we're convinced that Corey is a rebel (cause and all).

'Trinbago' became a republic on August 1, 1976. In true 'Trini' timin', we finally dropped our (T&T) Republic Day Reasonin' and Corey – in his "cynical uncle"-chastising style (as described by our host, Rumeal Peters) – spared nothing while schooling us on the real meaning of being a republic, where we went right and wrong and the perceived way forward.

We tackle topics such as:
(1) the maritime advantage of 'Trinbago' as a transhipment hub for international trade;
(2) pillaging - from sugar to oil;
(3) national pride and cultural identity (or vice versa);
(4) whether capitalism is reconcilable with democracy; and
(5) much more.

(Corey is a socio-cultural researcher and writer involved in a number of think-tanks and digital publications in Trinidad and Tobago.)
