Annise Parker is the President and CEO of the LGBTQ Victory Fund & Institute, an organization dedicated to elevating openly LGBTQ leaders who want to further diversity, inclusion, and equality at all levels of government. Annise served for three terms as the mayor of Houston, Texas, from 2010 to 2016. Houston was the fourth largest city in the US at the time of Annise’s election, and by voting her into office, Houston became the largest city to elect an openly gay mayor. Annise is a hero to many, including myself, and tirelessly champions diversity and equality.

Annise joins me today to discuss the Victory Fund & Institute mission and explain why diversity in organizations, including the government, is important. She explains how she educates others on how cultivating diversity & inclusion positively impacts the economy and describes why doing the right thing helps businesses. She also discusses how the LGBT movement has changed since Stonewall, how the community can still progress, and how you can become a better ally of the LGBTQ community.

“Diversity helps, whether it’s in the boardroom or the frontline customer-facing side of an organization or business.” - Annise Parker
