Welcome to the Forty Second episode of Daily Daf Differently. In this episode, Rabbi Ben Kramer looks at Masechet Shabbat Daf 43. The Talmud often explores the parameters of the law by addressing cases where two different values come into conflict. Today we look at the case of death on Shabbat and see how the rabbis tried to navigate the competing values of Kavod haShabbat (Respecting Shabbat) and Kavod HaMeit (Respecting the deceased).

Rabbi Ben Kramer works as a congregational rabbi and an artisan blacksmith (you can see his work at rabbiBLACKSMITH.com or at facebook.com/rabbiBlackSmith). He has an MA in Talmud from the JTS Graduate School and is currently on his second Daf Yomi cycle.

The opening and closing music for this podcast is Ufros from The Epichorus album One Bead.
