Welcome to the Hundred and Fourth episode of Daily Daf Differently. In this episode, Rabbi Adam Kligfeld looks at Masechet Shabbat Daf 105. Within this page of Talmud we have examples of numerous types of rabbinic argumentation, all centered around how much of a particular act or mlakha (labor) one must do in order to become fully liable for having violated Shabbat. Both on the surface of, and buried deep within, this technically complicated page are beautiful teachings about how each rabbi, and Jew, should/must find pathways to interpret the Torah in personally meaningful ways, and also about the praise due to the אדם כשר, the “kosher” or fit person—one whose life is devoted to acts of kindness, empathy and righteousness.

Rabbi Adam Kligfeld is the Senior Rabbi at Temple Beth Am in Los Angeles, CA. He is in his 4th year in this position, after serving 9 years as the rabbi of Congregation Eitz Chaim in Monroe, NY. One of his favorite roles as a rabbi is studying and learning original text with his community, specifically during his weekly Humash with Rashi class, a version of which he has been teaching for over twelve years.

The opening and closing music for this podcast is Ufros from The Epichorus album One Bead.
