We are joined by Trinity College’s Bill DeLongis to discuss team building strategies. After a brief run down of how he got up to Trinity Bill dives right into the driving factor behind some of these strategies. This leads us right into how he selects athletes to be in “leadership” roles and how different methods have helped him get athletes to get outside their comfort zone and improve these characteristics. He shares with us quite a few different examples of ‘workouts’ that they use and what the goal is of each. Bill then discusses how he periodizes his workouts around them, and where there are times he may back down because of them, and even why he may not back down at all. We then discuss some of the pros and con’s of the Division III rules, and how that impacts all the work he’s doing with his student athletes. We finish off discussing how he feels coaches can implement more of these types of methods, and expand our role in developing leadership. Make sure to give him a follow on IG @billdelongis for great examples of this.
