6 Black women who are always giving back

African-Americans give 25% more from their income than their white
counterparts, but somehow the charitable work that is done by affluent
Black Americans isn't always shared with the world. 

There's this myth that Black people don't give back and don't give money to charitable organizations. 

Contrary, to popular belief, African-Americans give 25% more from their income than their white counterparts, but somehow the charitable work that is done by affluent Black Americans isn't always shared with the world.

The key to understanding how Black wealth is redistributed is knowing that Black people need to see the difference their contributions are making before their eyes. Knowing that they mailed off a check isn't merely enough, but being able to see changes in the communities of which they give back to. 

Here are six Black women celebrities, who are always giving back for a good cause:

Beyonce

Beyonce supports over 20 charities and causes for things such as HIV/AIDS, natural disaster devastation, bullying, cancer, creative arts and more. She recently took a trip to Haiti to help residents recover from the earthquake, whose damaging effects still remain. Her Bey Good Foundation is currently raising funds for those in Nepal who have been affected by an earthquake. Earlier this year, she launched her Formation Scholarships for girls at select schools who are majoring in African-American studies and the arts. 

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah's charity work has never had a cap and hasn't been a secret. Oprah is giving all year round and doing great work through the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, Oprah's Angel Network and the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation. She's donates and raises millions of dollars for her foundations and much of it goes to funding her school for girls in South Africa.

Rihanna

Rihanna was recently given the humanitarian award at Harvard University for all of the giving back she does each year. Her Diamond Ball raised over $800,000 this year for charity and has raised over $3 million in past years. she continues to give more. There isn't a time when the star isn't making sure the people of Barbados are receiving the help they need. She founded the Clara Lionel foundation in 2012 which promotes health, eduation, the arts and more on a global scale. 

Deloris Jordan

Deloris Jordan, mother to basketball icon Micheal Jordan, is dedicated to making sure that all children have an equal chance at a good education. She worked closely with the Boys and Girls Club in Chicago, and went on to found the James R. Jordan Foundation, named after her late husband, which helps parents play an active role in their children's education. She also took her work internatinally and founded Kenya Women's and Children's Wellness Centre. 

Gail Snowden

Gail Snowden heads the Freedom House, based in Boston, which lends supports for civil rights initiatives and other programs related to education and public policy. Her parents founded the organization in 1949 and she became the CEO. Freedom House partners with other local programs in the area to prepare city kids for high school. 

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys is a huge advocate for those affected by by HIV and AIDS. She co-founded Keep a Child Alive with in 2003. The organization is doing what they can to save lives by providing medicine and medical care for families in India and Africa. committed to providing life-saving AIDS medicine and care to children and families in India and Africa. Her influence was able to raise over $1 million for the charity through social media donations alone.
