It's feared new planning laws that have come into effect could decimate a vital source of Clare's tourist accommodation.
The new EU legislation will require all short-term rental units to register and share details with Fáilte Ireland.
But the Irish government is requesting that all properties affected, including the 361 self-catering houses and apartments in Clare to apply for special planning permission as well.
CEO of the Irish Self Catering Federation Máire Ní Mhurcú believes the cost of this could force many operators out of the market.
