In this series, we take a look at Redding's Sewer System and talk with a few of the people who help make sure that the things you flush, don't come back up to the surface.  In fact, the City of Redding's Wastewater Department is making sure that the wastewater that leaves our homes eventually goes back into the Sacramento River as clean, if not cleaner, than when it came out.  This is no small operation!

In part three of this three-part series, we talk with Chuck Aukland, Director of Public Works for the City of Redding.  He gives a high-level overview of our Wastewater Department and the skills, certifications, and education that it takes to keep a sewer system as large as ours (60 square miles of pipe!) in good working order.  He also highlights some new technology that the City of Redding will be adopting called Pyrolysis. By adopting this technology, Redding will be at the cutting edge of solving some wastewater and solid waste challenges for our community.
