Imported straight from Japanese cinema, Kaiju and Tokusatsu expert Diego returns along with self-professed cinephile Mike to discuss Hideaki Anno's latest film in his cinematic universe, Shin Ultraman.

On this episode of The Cinedicate, we gather to unpack the Japanese figure of Ultraman and how he represents hope in their culture. Since this film is also the second installment of a series, following Shin Godzilla, we also compare and tone of hope to the previous film's darker tone. We also explain why this film is a direct reaction to the COVID pandemic of 2020.

Shin Ultraman depicts Japan as the last line of defense against an oncoming invasion of creatures from the depths of our planet, Kaiju. As the world turns it's back against the island nation, a silver clad entity arrives from space to help the Japanese and the world against these forces of nature.
