After leaving the Philippines, during the Ferdinand Marcos regime in the early 1980s to seek better opportunities in America, Mika’s family not only navigated unfamiliar surroundings and assimilated in the American culture, but thrived.  The family’s incredible work ethic and sound financial sense allowed for the creation of many opportunities for others, including financial support for individuals going to college, the creation of dozens of jobs through an international bookkeeping company, services provided to help underprivileged communities, and building rental property buildings for the family’s future. Mika’s mom’s struggle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s created challenges and opportunities for the family to become resilient and continue her legacy.  This is a story of family resilience, triumph over adversity and service to others.
