THE GOOD

A lean, mean people dissolving machine. Delivers thrills while developing characters and relationships. Meg becomes iconic female action hero we didn’t know we needed. Gnarly practical effects.

THE BAD

The stop motion effects, on the other hand, come off a little dated. Unsure of where the story was set: the south? But they expect snow? A tad muddled.

THE DOWNRIGHT CAMPY

Meg’s father being the shopkeeper. Old man hermit. Scientists shooting machine guns into a manhole. Lots of fun to be had here.

This remake is worthy of classic status. Retains the spirit of the ‘58 version while offering up it’s own twist on the story. A uniquely gross yet charming film.
