This episode of the Business, Innovation and Technology podcast takes a research-based look at Gen Z and ways to better understand how to communicate with this cohort. Podcast host Jordan Rogers-Smith is joined by Meta colleagues Molly Anne Austin, Client Insights Lead, Entertainment, and Omar Zayat, Senior Director, Head of Industry - Entertainment.

The guests discuss Gen Z’s use of multiple platforms and why brands should consider each platform’s “superpower” when deciding how to frame and customize messaging and content. Molly and Omar share research on why Gen Z uses Facebook and Instagram: keeping up with interests, following influencers and creators, and being updated by brands they care about.

Molly stresses that Gen Z sees through brands that adopt social justice issues for just a day, a week, or a month. Brands need to stay on message all year; this is a generation that cares deeply about these issues. Omar says that brands also need to think about pathways to the metaverse, as this generation will probably be the first to consider it a normal form of social connection, both personally and professionally.
