Next Episode: 5 | VULNERABLE

Whitney is a personal finance coach and entrepreneur at whitneyhansen.com. She teaches overwhelmed millennials how to pay off debt and be financially independent by giving them the tools to have more fun with money and she makes sure to sprinkle in a little silliness.

In this podcast episode, Whitney explains how she came from a pretty rough background, was able to pay of $30,000 of student debt in just 10 months, and the work she does today with her business.

Whitney also has an award winning podcast called The Money Nerds that I highly suggest listening to.

Her advice to you for when you're feeling burnt out? Chill. Take a break. Take some time for you.

The Burnt Out Experience

Burnout is an extremely real thing for Whitney, but she does admit that her tolerance for feeling that way is very high. During her first few experiences with feeling burnt out, Whitney didn't realize that the effects of it were so severe. She mainly experienced these harsh feelings during her undergraduate studies when she had a full course-load, would pull all-nighters to study, and had a full-time job.

At this point in her life, she didn't feel like she had any options to save herself from feeling severely burnt out. She didn't have a support system from her parents, she couldn't fail her classes, and she couldn't quit her job... so, she just kept going. It was a miserable time in her life and she recognizes that many college students may feel a similar weight.

Her background allowed her the strength to keep going through the motions to successfully complete her education, but she doesn't allow herself to become fully burnt out anymore. She isn't willing to go back there.

So, Whitney's usual feelings of burnout are what she calls "symptoms." She feels these symptoms every three months, without fail. She starts experiencing self-doubt and asks, "What the heck am I doing with my life? Why am I trying this business? Is this even going to work?"

She starts to feel like she doesn't want to face the world.. and that's when she takes action.

How did she deal? Chill

Whitney takes a break. Simple as that.

She unplugs and watches some Netflix to get her mind in a different space. Whitney takes the power of rest seriously and also practices meditation.

She has acknowledged, that while she was able to power through intense times, it's a much better option to take care of yourself in times of stress.

Get Outdoors

If you take a look at Whitney's blog, facebook, or instagram, you will quickly see her love for traveling (on a budget, of course).

So, another way that Whitney deals with her symptoms, is to go take a hike, explore the outdoors around her, and totally clear her mind of the pressures that are causing those symptoms.
