After working in startups for 6 years, Briana Okyere now runs a global community of 600+ tech founders: Tech Founders.

Her passion for helping emerging technologies and ideas was born out of her love and respect for the underdog. As the daughter of an African immigrant, and now on track to a C-level position at Founders Network, Briana is used to the fight, and her mission is to propel others who are currently in it.

The Burnt Out Experience

Just four months ago, Briana hit the end of her rope. She was planning a three-day conference in Napa Valley, which was stressful in itself.

A week before, the venue burned down.
So... literal burnout.

Briana and her team pulled together to get a new venue, adjust the conference, and pull off a fantastic event. Awesome!

They went over the budget, had a really rough week, and Briana was left needing a breath.

How did she deal? Talk About It

Briana is adamant that if you can't have honest conversations about the way you're feeling with the people you work with, then you shouldn't be working where you are.

To make honest conversations happen, Briana advocates for one-on-ones every week. She leaves room when she talks to her employees for personal emotions and life situations. It helps with work-life balance and it helps with work culture. During these one-on-ones, she helps her employees name their stressors, and then create an action plan to work through those stressors.

Routine

During this stressful time, Briana had fallen out of her usual habits of exercise and eating right.

She took a step back and remembered that "work-life balance" and "self care" aren't just buzz words. They're REAL and necessary for keeping yourself from burning out.

“Just be yourself. Everyone will find out who you are eventually, so you might as well start off as you.”
