Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. Every year on September 21, World Alzheimer's Day is commemorated to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Lancet publications (2017 & 2020) identified 12 major risk factors for dementia, including: less education, hypertension (high blood pressure), hearing impairment, smoking, obesity, depression, physical inactivity, diabetes, low social contact, head injuries, excessive alcohol consumption, and exposure to air pollution.
