*TRIGGER WARNING: If your mental health is not in a space to handle talks about COVID-19, the Delta Variant putting children in the hospital, debate about anti-vax/anti-mask. or anything health related, please skip this episode or tune in at a later time.
COVID-19 has divided families, broken friendships, ended marriages, and caused enormous amounts of trauma for so many of us. But, one thing we can all agree on is that parenting during this pandemic is challenging (understatement of the century). It can feel impossible to make the "right" decisions, and like no matter what we do, we are either risking our children's health or their childhood. It is unfair that we have to make these decisions, and can be very isolating. In this episode I am joined by the strong, brave, and vulnerable mama - Shamire Crummie- for a very open conversation about the struggles of navigating this pandemic as a mother. Shamire has a bachelors degree in Public Relations, a Master’s degree in Social Work, and has been a stay at home mom for 3 years after her son was born at 26 weeks and was in the NICU for 133 days.
We talk about the lack of consideration for our children from the CDC's guidelines and fellow Americans, why the Delta Variant is so scary for parents, and how to handle our feelings of anger, fear, and isolation when it seems we cannot catch a break. Shamire opens up about her personal experiences with keeping her family safe during COVID, how to handle strange looks when being careful and masking up, and how she is able to find joy and take the time for self care. The pandemic isn't, and never was, over for us parents. This episode provides an opportunity for other mamas to relate, feel heard, and be reminded that you are not alone. Tune in for advice, support. and resources that can help any mamas struggling through this time.
If you are struggling with feelings of isolation, overwhelm, fear, or anything else related to your children's health and safety during this time, please don't hesitate to reach out to myself or Shamire for support. We are not Drs and cannot offers medical advice, but we are happy to continue the conversation and offer a safe place to let it out.
