You know you’re an entrepreneur at heart when…you’re a kid and try to sell your pencil shavings at school. Or when you fill up your time off with side gigs. Or when you can remember the exact reason why you failed that eighth-grade business assignment (not enough inventory) but are still able to describe how popular the product was.

Is this something you can relate to?

The thing is, the reason I remember why I failed that assignment is because I learned a really important lesson about running a business that day – even a tiny one. And that’s how I see every business success, failure, and fumble: as the lessons that brought me to this exact moment.

In episode 12 of the Black Girl Fly podcast, Tenisha and I recount our earliest memories of entrepreneurship and how that shaped our business mindsets. We remember our various side hustles – and some of the awkward scenes they helped create – and our motivations for becoming business owners in the first place. And finally, we discuss our experiences of striking out, the invaluable lessons we learned from them, and how they shaped our success.

We talk a lot about knowing your worth and believing in your dreams. But constantly having to remind yourself that you’re on the right track can be exhausting. So, we’ve put together a short list of resources to fuel your business, feed your soul, and inspire you. Check it out:
