Laura and I knew each other at the height of the Dot Com bubble in San Francisco in the late 1990’s.  We hadn’t seen each other for over 20+ years and it was time to catch up…  Why not do an interview.  Laura is smart, a deep and thoughtful thinker, and successful to boot.  She is a full on self starter with a whole bunch of life story and plenty of insight.  We have a ton of fun and you get plenty of opinions towards the end.  Enjoy!

Show notes:

Laura got to see me fall in love…  And it’s fun to relive that moment.   Dawn and I get to make amends…

But back to Laura - She gets reflective on her old divorce and the time it takes to heal that…  Laura plays coy on the exact time frame, but suffice it to say it was back in the 90’s lol. Any opportunity to go back and “amend” some of that?  Yes and “Please don’t contact me again?”.  Her answer is awesome :).  And her working through remorse of “things should have been different”.

Laura and I were in the heart of the 2000 era Dot Com bubble.  Her time with “RedHat” stock options… Our reflections of the bubble!   Stuck with a mortgage and no job, then Kinko’s which doesn’t cover the mortgage.   I was willing to do anything to survive because I’ve been on my own since I was 17.  She finds a suicide note left on the copy machine…  It was a desperate time.

Got a Nolo Press, “How to start a CA corporation book”…  And within a couple of months of telling the universe "I am this" I got a stroke of luck…”.  I was very fortunate, things boomed after that.

After 8 or 9 years, kinda burnt out.  Trying to create a different business paradigm…  win win win.  It’s hard to stop on your own when the money’s good.  You’re praying for it to all fall apart.  “Please god get me out of this!”.  I had to keep doing it because of a bigger plan that was clearly out of my control…

This life is rented, none of this is mine, I didn’t want any of this and it just kept coming.

Her mom gets sick somewhere in there.  (Mom passed of cancer in 2006).  “Honey, when are you gonna have enough chestnuts?”  That’s a good question…  Any other mom nuggets from that time?  Oh yes there is.

Another stroke of luck, she builds a little widget for her company…   Laura’s pretty smart. “So now I have this little software company…”

I have lived in the $400 a month apartment cockroach infested apartment.

Are we just white people with white people problems?  She brings up some good thought provoking questions and answers to my question.

Always be open…   Be grateful for what is.  Try to help as much as we can.
