Sonya is originally from Germany but lives in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Sonya opens up about her first homebirth experience in Mexico during the pandemic.
She also shares about the rite of passage in the Mayan culture when it comes to becoming a midwife. To become a midwife in the Mayan culture you need to be a mother yourself, go to many births,- take on that wisdom and experience and then you are allowed to practice as a midwife.
I really enjoyed chatting with Sonya and learning why the way Mayan women birth is changing in recent years.
