We usually began our consideration of Jesus' death by his riding into Jerusalem on a donkey when a large crowd welcomed him with acclamations of praise, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" However, there is a story before the story that set everything into play. Jesus arrived with his Twelve disciples 6 days before Passover to the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary. Only 2 weeks before Jesus had raised Lazarus back to life after he had been in the tomb for 4 days. Because of this miracle and the once dead man now restored back to life and reunited with his sisters, a huge crowd was always present. It grew when Jesus arrived and this threw the religious leaders into a frenzy because people were increasingly believing in Jesus!  This had to end. So they plotted to kill Lazarus as well as Jesus if they could isolate him away from the crowds. They had motive to kill but they needed either to assassinate him or somehow get the crowds to turn on him.
