Jesus quoting  Isaiah 56:7 said, my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”
Christian worship includes public prayer as an essential element. This truth is reflected in the title, Book of  Common Prayer used  by Anglicans. Prayer is essential for worship.
But here is a question. How is prayer done in our gathered assemblies for corporate worship? How much are our congregations, the people present, involved in offering prayers to God? A principle way  that prayers can be offered by the people is through the structured intentional used of hymns, psalms and spiritual songs. There are certain things that work against this happening and certain steps that can be taken to make prayer happen by the singing of hymns and songs . This brief message takes a look at the first movement in our worship service from a recent Sunday gathering. The service begins with a Scriptural call to worship, opening hymn of faith declaration in the Triune God with the intent to pray to him followed by two hymns that are prayers addressed to him. We worship God through and in Jesus Christ. Come let us worship in the singing of words addressed to him!
