After observing the Lord Jesus often in prayer one of his disciples on behalf of all of them ask him to teach them to pray. Luke 11:1-4. In response Jesus said:
When you pray, say:

“Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread,
 and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.”

We can and should set aside time each day for prayer in a disciplined way. However, prayer can also take the form of a spontaneous expressions.
