God and clouds are often associated in the Scripture.

Sing to God! Sing praises to His name.
Exalt Him who rides on the clouds —
His name is Yahweh—and rejoice before Him. HCSB Psalm 68:4

There is a special cloud that we read about in the Old Testament and later we encounter it in the New Testament. In short,  this cloud both hides God's full glory while at the same time conveys his special manifest presence and from it he communicates his revelation. In the Old Testament it appears first at the Exodus and later covers the mountain when Moses went up to receive God's revelation. After the Tabernacle is constructed  we read  according to Yahweh's instruction, we read in Exodus 4033ff: So Moses finished the work. Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle.  And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle.  Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out.  But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up.  For the cloud of Yahweh was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys."
This happened again later at the temple dedication.
This cloud also has a special appearance in reference to Jesus Christ - on the Mount of his transfiguration, at his ascension into heaven, and at his return he will come again in the cloud of God's glorious presence.
