On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former UCF and NFL Wide Receiver, Mike Sims-Walker.

In 2009 Mike Sims-Walker led the Jaguars in receptions and yards en route to finally showing the world he belonged on the biggest stage. The less obvious tale is his road to get there.

As Sims-Walker puts it, at an early age he looked to his brother and father as role models in his best effort to not run with the wrong crowd. While knowing what he didn’t want, he found sports and created a path to somewhere he wanted to be. While at UCF he became a 2 time all conference player and earned the attention of scouts in the NFL.

Before Mike had his 2009 campaign, he had overcome significant knee injuries. This includes after his junior year in college and the injury that made him missed all of the 2007 regular season among others. Determination and will power allowed him to work himself on top of the stat sheet before ultimately retiring due to lingering knee issues.
