"The best laid plans of mice and men..."  John Steinbeck

Have you ever noticed that no matter how much planning you put into something, something almost always goes wrong?

You then have 2 choices...

1- you freak out and frantically try to make it right...

or 2- You take a deep breath, send up a silent prayer for strength and patience, and go with the flow.

Some of my favorite memories with my husband and children started out as plans gone horribly wrong.

The scenic detour that had us lost in the wilds of Pennsylvania, late at night, gas tank on E and passing by a secluded pond that can only be described as that one from Friday the 13th... you know, the one from Camp Kill All the People, that Jason lived in?

Obviously no one died that night. We made it to a small town that ,miraculously, had 1 gas station , and it was still open at 10pm on a weeknight!

How's that for divine intervention? If you have ever been to a rural, out of the way, small town in the mid -west, then you know just how amazing this is.

How is this a good memory?

The kids still laugh about the time Jason almost got us; still make fun of me for getting us lost in the mountains where there was no cell signal; and of the time they got to spend with family once we arrived at our destination.

Did it go as planned? No, it did not.

Is it a memory that we all remember with fondness and laughter and love? Yes, it is.

And that makes that plan gone wrong into a cherished memory.

Of course, such would not be the case had Jason actually appeared from that scary green pond, or if we had run out of gas in the middle of nowhere... but since those things didn't happen... it was one of the best trips we ever had!
