It’s a beautiful thing when we choose to lay down our wants and needs for the things of God. A selfless prayer shifts our focus from our desires and needs to what God wants for our life. That might seem counterintuitive considering most prayers consist of asking God for His blessings and help, but that’s not the problem. Asking God to help you is not what makes a prayer selfish. What makes a prayer selfish is when we begin to put our desires ahead of what God wants.

When you choose to lay down what you want for the things God wants, that’s selflessness. I want more than ever to be aligned with the heart of God and His will for my life.

I know it can be incredibly challenging because we can’t see the future, and often God’s entire plan for us is not revealed all at once. The goals and dreams you have for yourself don’t even come close to what God has in store for you. It’s through life’s journey and walking by faith that His will is revealed.

Today, don’t just beg God for the things you want. There’s nothing wrong with asking, but choose to remain selfless by surrendering your wants to the will of God. Be willing to lay down your wants and needs for what God wants for your life and watch His miraculous handiwork. Remain humble before Him when you pray, and choose to align your heart selflessly with His.
