The Food and Drug Administration recently approved the Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine, officially named Comirnaty. On the 23rd of August, 2021, Comirnaty became the first vaccine under emergency authorization to receive such an approval for those 16 and over. The data gathered under the emergency authorization period was substantial and rigorously reviewed before it was handed in to the FDA for full review.

Dr. Gregory Poland, Head of the Mayo Clinic’s Vaccine Research Group and Infectious disease expert was quoted as saying, “This is a spectacular human accomplishment. Think of this from 18 months ago or so when this was identified to having hundreds of millions, billions when you look worldwide that have received a vaccine and the speed at which the science has been able to move. Amazing."

Now, being a Vaccine Expert with 20+ years of experience in Pulmonary and Critical care, I explain what this information means for us now and well into the future. I discuss what the FDA approval means, how it addresses vaccine hesitancy, how it will impact the legal world and how this impacts what we can expect as the new normal.
