Not the best-known of Dvořák's works, possibly because of its unusual instrument combination, the Quintet in G Major deserves to be heard more often. The doublebass adds a rich, deep sonority while occasionally providing a pulsing underpinning to the livelier passages. All in all this is spirited, lyrical music, reflective of Dvořák's increasing sophistication as a composer. Series: "La Jolla Music Society: SummerFest" [Arts and Music] [Show ID: 33140]
