This week on the Art of Doing Podcast, Hilary sits down with our Hatch Tribe Mentor of the Month & leading sales coach, Kim Orlesky.

If you’ve ever uttered the words, “I’m not good at sales!”, you’re not alone, but you’re also not hopeless. Kim helps entrepreneurs and small businesses create better sales processes so they can build thriving businesses.

3 Key Points in this Episode:

Pricing should be aligned to the value you’re giving to our clients, not just the amount of time you’re working on the project.
Sales is not something you do to someone. It’s something you do with someone.

You don’t grow your business unless you put faith in other people to help you get there.

In 2006, after graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance, Kim started her sales career with Xerox Canada. She quickly learned the art of negotiation, created solutions that made her customers more profitable, and then moved on to selling medical-grade cosmetic lasers and later enterprise payment solutions for American Express Canada.

In 2014, she had a moment. After working for several years, building her career in corporate sales, she realized her happiness was tied in extrinsic form. She decided it was time to live her own dream.

Within a matter of weeks she left her role as a National Account Executive, sold her house, and went backpacking around the world – solo. She traveled to 17 countries across four continents over the course of 6 months.

During that time, her daily blog increased in readership and had been read 10,000 times and Kim wrote two books "Finding (My)Self (Love): One Girl’s Journey Across 17 Countries Across 4 Continents in 6 Months" and "How to Be a Nomad."

Upon returning, Kim realized it wasn’t that she disliked sales, it was that she wanted to help even more people. She wanted to show more businesses the right way to connect with people and create lasting relationships.

Today Kim is listed as one of the top sales leaders to follow, Startup Canada's Woman Entrepreneur, Success Magazine’s most inspirational blogger, and soon to be three-time author. She expands her presence with international speaking, including speaking at North America’s largest entrepreneurial event, Inbound, alongside Brené Brown and Michelle Obama. Her upcoming events include a 25,000 person audience in Dallas, TX next to Grant Cardone, Tony Robbins, and a handful of other sales leaders.

Quotable Moment:

“Play bigger! It’s takes as much work to go after a $50,000 deal as it does to go after a $2,000 deal. If you want to play a big game, play a big game. Don’t wait until you have enough experience. You will never be ready. People will buy on your potential.” ~ Kim Orlesky
