In this episode, David Robinson interviews apartment developer and investor Tim Watcke about his apartment investing journey.

Tim grew up in Michigan. He learned about real estate investing from an early age. His father was a college professor who also invested in real estate on the side.

With the help of his dad, Tim purchased his first duplex at the age of 16.

After college Tim made a trip out to Salt Lake to ski bum for the winter but never went home. He worked at a restaurant and dove into the single-family fix and flip business where he flipped over 200 homes.

As the single-family fix and flip business became more competitive he started flipping small apartment building and eventually moved into in large value add apartment investing and development.

During the great recession as other investors were losing everything Tim’s apartment buildings performed well and helped him weather the storm.

He also shared with us the details of a 42 unit deep value-add syndication deal where his investors are likely to experience a 30-40% return on investment.
