In this episode, I sit down with my new friend, Rachel Miller, a full-time writer and author of the newly released book, "When It Hurts to Hope." Rachel shares her powerful journey of breaking free from legalism and fundamentalism within the FLDS cult and finding hope and healing in the midst of pain and longing.

Growing up with a skewed perspective of God as angry and judgmental due to the environment of legalism and fundamentalism, Rachel struggled with performance-based behavior throughout her childhood. However, as a young adult and in college, she experienced a transformative encounter with God, breaking free from the chains of legalism.

Rachel reflects on her journey out of the FLDS cult and how God used her heartbreak to change her perspective and bring her freedom. She emphasizes the importance of examining the foundation of one's upbringing and allowing God's Word and truth to set us free from distorted beliefs.

Drawing from her own experiences of loneliness and unmet longing, Rachel shares insights on living in the tension of longing and finding hope in God's presence. She discusses the significance of community and chosen family in the church, highlighting the importance of supporting one another through grief and difficult times.

Rachel's story serves as a reminder that while suffering and unmet longing are real, Jesus walks with us through every season of life, offering comfort and hope. Join us as Rachel Miller shares her inspiring journey of finding hope in the midst of pain and discovering the beauty of community and faith.
