Episode 00007

Release Date: June 15, 2020

Description: Real Time Crime Centers (RTCC) provide actionable information and intelligence to officers almost instantaneously as they happen; they ensure officers have the most updated information to execute their duties accurately and safely. In this episode, Anthony (Tony) Berger, a 30+ year sworn veteran with the Pierce County (WA) Sheriff's Department, provides insight on how a RTCC can assist law enforcement and how they benefit the industry as a whole. Tony shares his experience on how they started the South Sound 911 RTCC, career-defining stories, what success means to him, as well as his perspective on what it's like doing crime analysis as a sworn personnel. Tony reminds us that IACA is like a family and that our annual conferences were like a big family reunion; it's easy to feel alone when you're the only analyst in hundreds of miles, but remember you have an entire association with you that is more than happy to help you, just as they helped Tony, every step of the way on your journey! At the end, Tony talks about his love for home brewing and dedication to his faith. Pro tip: Make sure what you're brewing is properly sanitized! Tony has since retired from the Pierce County SO, but continues his role as the Program Manager at South Sound 911 to today.
