The sermon was delivered on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Bishop Carlton D. Pearson & Rev. Kimberly Braun, Guest Ministers.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
When Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, he replied: “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is similar, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Christian love comes down to us from the teachings of other religions that pre-date Christianity by thousands of years. Buddha, Krishna, and other enlightened souls taught the same thing as the basis and essence of all spirituality.
We don’t learn to love, we somehow forget to. Loving comes naturally; hatred is taught or appropriated. Love is the DNA of spirit and must be recalled, reclaimed and reconciled. This is what it means to be born again or anew.
