Sermon delivered on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Adjunct Minister.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
As we bid farewell to the sultry days of this record-breaking Oklahoma summer, we notice how we have gravitated toward states of being that do not move us to exertion. For sure, heat makes you weary. Our comfortable twenty-first century conditions make a distant memory of the kind of heat that sapped our strength and made early rising a must if there was to be any work done. We have become conditioned to the air conditioner. I’m not mad at ‘ya! Our bodies need that kind of relief. But what about our spirits?
We constantly wage conflicts, regardless of the weather, between wanting to “do something” and comfortable inaction. I want to speak to your spirits about ways and means of moving outside our comfort zones.
