Welcome back to Advocate Activism! This week Amira and Rayah take a deep dive into some of the things that have been going on in the Salem-Keizer School District. Local youth have been busy getting rid of SROs, pushing for the appropriate reallocation of those funds, and demanding violent and racist school staff and board members resign. Unfortunately, that means they have been under extra attack by white supremacists and prompted them to reach out to the community and Purple Vests (Salem Keizer Interfaith Network) for additional support. We went down and listened to what they are facing and stood along side them, and holy shit – we were in awe of their brilliant courage and determination.
Latino students are now the largest demographic in SKSD
