The mitochondrial are not only the energy producing powerhouses of the cell, but they are also involved in the synthesis of our hormones. We do not have adequate hormones if we do not have good mitochondrial function, full stop. This is why it is critical to go beyond ‘egg quality’ when thinking about fertility outcomes in general, but especially with IVF. In today’s episode we talk about hormone synthesis and how it is influenced by mitochondrial function. I also talk about some clinical pearls for supporting mitochondrial health and how to assess hormones a little bit differently.
