Whether you are looking to buy a business, run a business or grow a business there are only a few ways that you can ever find yourself “getting stuck”.

What "getting stuck" really boils down to is you running into some challenges that you perceive as stopping you from achieving the goals you want to achieve.

If you master this skill set of identifying and overcoming these challenges, it will enable you to look for these challenges and see them as opportunities for potential acquisition candidates.

Let's break down the fundamentals of business in general.

You need to do three critical things with clients in any business: find them, convert them, and keep them as your client.

That's it!

So when you are looking at any business, you need to immediately look for those 3 steps and understand how they are currently doing them.

For example, if you have a lot of leads, whether it's from Facebook, Twitter or Google, but you can’t convert them, the majority of your effort and resources need to go into figuring out why you are not converting them.

Perhaps your messaging is off, your branding sucks, or they are just not interested in whatever you have to sell. Being able to identify and ask these questions is key to adapting and overcoming.

Contrary, maybe you have a tough time finding the right people, but once you get in front of them, they convert like crazy, in this case, you need to spend your time and effort figuring out how to get in front of the right people more consistently.

It is super important to understand that being methodical and rational in your systems and processes is key to building a solid, valuable business. If you are flying blind and bouncing from thing to thing trying to figure something out, then any potential buyer will look at that and just see an unorganized mess.

When you are trying to figure out what works try and be like a scientist, “I have a hypothesis that if we change our ad messaging from X to Y, it will increase conversions” try that and document everything, only then can you accurately compare results and start to get closer to what works.

How do you solve this?

Certainty, Clarity and Focus you need to know where you are going and what you are going to get there. Commit to taking certain actions day in and day out and then look back to see your results.

You also need to be in touch with your mission, your deep understanding of why you do what you do and what impact you want to make. When you are clear on this, clarity and focus are byproducts.

If you don’t have that certainty or clarity in your vision, go find somebody who does and does whatever it takes to be around them. When you can see this trait in other people, it becomes easier to bring it out in yourself. We are who we hang out with, after all.
