This very challenging line from A Course in Miracles is quite hard to accept: “The purpose of all seeing is to show you what you wish to see.”
It flips the whole world of cause and effect on its head.
How does it work? The Course explains it:
“You see what you expect, and you expect what you invite. Your perception is the result of your invitation, coming to you as you sent for it. Two ways of looking at the world are in your mind, and your perception will reflect the guidance you have chosen.”
Those two ways of looking are either with the ego or the mind of spirit.
“Remember always that you see what you seek, for what you seek you will find. The ego finds what it seeks, and only that. It does not find love, for that is not what it is seeking.”
That is why we are unhappy. It has nothing to do with what’s going on in the world. Sadness, anger, fear, and every other such emotion are the result of choosing the ego mind.
Understanding the dynamics of the ego - and then choosing against it - is the only way out of the hell we’ve made.
