Christa Filius is a leader within the Oil and Gas industry, currently responsible for 380 staff and is the only woman who holds one of the 60 comparable roles globally within her company. She moved from the Netherlands to the Philippines, to pursue her current leadership role. She shares with us the treatment that women have to endure in industries where they are still minorities, including the assault on her sister, who was also one of the few women working within the same industry. She embodies how leaders from diverse backgrounds can bring much needed change into teams, and shape companies to be more inclusive. Christa provides tips for young leaders on how to be fearless and how to negotiate your pay to reflect what you are worth.

"I discussed with her (Christa’s sister) beforehand if we could talk about this. She said is ok with it because there have been so many more instances at work which did not go as far, and I have experienced it myself too, but because you try to downplay it and shrug it off. Hindsight we should have reported it to people. Brought it out in the open

I do want to encourage, that if it happens to you at the workplace and it is inappropriate speak to somebody. Even if you feel you can’t speak to H.R. Speak to somebody else, even to other female colleagues. Most big corporations have channels where you can flag it. Use those channels, because if we don’t speak up, it will continue happening. It won’t stop." Christa
