It's estimated that there are 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths each year due to foodborne illnesses. One in six Americans experience a foodborne illness each year -- and that just represents cases that have been reported.
Unfortunately, these illnesses can be quite serious. In a year, it's estimated that there are 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths. But, the good news is, many incidences are highly preventable.
Shelley Feist, Executive Director of the Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE), discusses the four key steps to reduce your risk of food poisoning, including:
Clean (hand-washing, proper washing/drying of fruits and vegetables)
Separate (individual cutting boards, keeping counter-tops clean)
Cook (don't under-cook foods)
Chill (getting foods in the fridge within 60-90 minutes, know the internal temp of your fridge)
Listen as Feist joins Dr. Roizen to expand upon these steps, as well as share additional information on foodborne illnesses.
