We invite Cleveland comedian John Armstrong back onto the pod for this special episode to break down, in-depth, Dave Chappelle's monologue from the 11.7.2020 episode of Saturday Night Live.
We go over the themes, objectives, delivery, writing, and psychology of the set, from Chappelle's wardrobe to the inclusive nature of certain jokes, designed to appeal to a wider audience. Though some of the monologue drew controversy, there's no controversy between David, Steve, Gheramy, or John: this is a bit of comedic storytelling, public speaking, and theatre packed with layers that needed peeled back and revealed to both comedians and non-comics, alike.
