Some movies are supposed to be "bad" because they're intentionally poking fun at films that are simply bad. Some movies are the films that are simply bad. YHS on Monster Island's Jay Key takes a look at two instances where a low budget indie kaiju film tries to be a successful parody of the genre - one nails it, one is almost unwatchable. It's 2010's Death Kappa from the mind of Ultraman veteran, Tomoo Haraguchi, versus the Reigo/Raiga Trilogy from beloved fan favorite multi-tasker, Shinpei Hayashiya. Will the irradiated creature of Japanese folklore and his love of bad Japanese pop music deliver? Or will it be the three-part series about the lightning-summoning kaiju with a penchant for urinating on cities that excels? Who the hell knows? Is anyone even listening?
