Dogs have owners; cats have staff—right? Wrong. Cats love us just as much as dogs do. We love our kitties, too, but we often don’t understand them. And when they don’t get their social and emotional needs met, they get stressed.

Luckily the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists has come out with the book, Decoding Your Cat, so cat parents can unscramble the signals of cat behaviors and prevent or change unwanted ones.

Several different cat behaviorists wrote the chapters and Dr. Meghan Herron was the editor. She’s a professor at the College Of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State University.

The pandemic has seen a huge rise in pet ownership. As on Washington Post headline put it in August: Shelters, rescues and breeders report increased demand as Americans try to fill voids with canine companions.
