Writer Mother Monster: Kim McLarin

Kim McLarin is the author of three critically-acclaimed novels, the memoir Divorce Dog: Motherhood, Men, & Midlife and Womanish: A Grown Black Woman Speaks on Life and Love. Her most recent book is a critical and personal examination of a favorite novel: James Baldwin's Another Country.  McLarin's nonfiction writing has appeared in The New York Times, Glamour, The Washington Post, Slate, The Root and other publications. She is a former staff writer for The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Greensboro News & Record, and The Associated Press.  She is an associate professor and graduate program director of the MFA in Popular Fiction Writing and Publishing in the Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing at Emerson College. Kim has two children ages 21 and 23 and she describes writer-motherhood in three words as "Contradictory. Depleting. Enriching."
