How do you know if you’re making a good investment?

We’re excited to have Joe Briggs join Lauryn Williams on the podcast to continue our Venture Capital series.

Joe earned his undergrad degree on a football scholarship at Texas Christian University. When a car accident ended any chance he had of playing in the NFL he continued his studies earning a Master's degree at Florida A&M University and a law degree from FSU College of Law.

Joe has more than 20 years of experience in public policy, education, and advocacy on the national landscape. He is also an angel investor and small business owner, leveraging capital through TJC Ventures towards interests in the sports tech space. When he is not advocating for your favorite athletes he is likely teaching, speaking and training youth and aspiring change-makers on subjects ranging from politics to sports and everything in between.

In This Episode, We Discuss:

An important lesson he learned as a child watching his grandfather work as fruit picker and why he’s carried it with him all these years Why he started looking for college scholarships while in elementary school His surprising path to a college football scholarship The importance of doing your due diligence before making an investment What he does so he can be willing to invest and risk losing money What an “investment thesis” is and why every investor needs one
