The Negro National Anthem encourages us to sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us; sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us. If we are to do that and to live as people of faith, we may have to reach back and reclaim the faith of our cultural and biblical heritage. By faith, our ancestors overcame unimaginable hardships and did amazing things empowered by the grace of God at work within them. What will we accomplish by faith -- when we learn to reach back and rise up?
