This week's show is all abut bringing a touch of the Mediterranean to your garden or green space in Switzerland with citrus plants. Great plants for beginners include lemons (look out for the 4 Seasons lemon, also called the Amalfi lemon and the Lunario lemon), Calamondin oranges (also sold as Citrus madurensis or Calamansi limes), or limes, such as the excellent Tahiti lime (sometimes sold as a Persian lime) which has edible fruit and leaves.
Citrus are heavy feeders, and it's a good idea to buy a specially formulated fertiliser such as the Italian brand Chicchi di Sole. They are also thirsty plants, requiring a complete soaking, to help plump up the fruit - just don't let the plant sit in water as they are susceptible to root rots. Expect to pay at least 50 CHF for a smallish plant, from most garden centres
