The Kingdom of Dahomey, West Africa, ca. 1600-1900. A fierce and all female military unit known to the Europeans as the Dahomey Amazons fought in the front line of every battle with their neighboring tribes. Known in their own language as the Mino these women died for their king and "threw themselves at their enemy". They raided, took captives and killed. But why did they fight and why were they chosen to be warriors?

Join us, as we talk about these fascinating women who are still remembered today in not only local oral tradition but also in much of the African descendant world.
